First and foremost, we need to talk about dehydration. While you’re enjoying your day under the hot Florida sun, your body is going to be losing quite a bit of water. While you’re swimming in the ocean and the salt air is filling your lungs and kissing your skin, you’re going to be losing even more. Dehydration comes along with quite a few telltale signs like dry skin, headache, dizziness, and decreased urine output when it’s mild, and symptoms of severe dehydration include seizures, kidney failure, coma, or even death. For best results during a beach day, bring along plenty of water!
There are a few other things to keep in mind while enjoying a beach day. First, you want to protect yourself from the strong sun. You can do this by making sure you’re loaded up on sunscreen and by retreating to a shady area to give yourself a break from the sun’s rays every so often. Bringing along a beach umbrella is a great way to ensure you don’t get too much of a good thing.
While swimming or boating, there are some other safety tips that should always be adhered to that are water specific. Signs along the beach should alert swimmers to any undertow or rip currents present, and if one is stuck in a rip current always swim parallel to the shore to get out of it before coming back in toward the sand. While boating, always follow local boating regulations to ensure a safe and fun experience.
